Anointing of the Sick
The sacrament of the anointing of the sick, like all the sacraments, was instituted by Christ as a means of grace. Through this sacrament, the sick or elderly person is united with Christ crucified, who suffered for us on the Cross.
As the apostle James tells us: "Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven" (James 5:14-15).
The sacrament of anointing is validly given to any Catholic who, either due to sickness or old age, is in danger of death. However, one does not need to be at the moment of death in order to receive this sacrament.
If you or someone you love is in need of the anointing of the sick, please contact the church office at 870-772-1115.
