Eucharist (First Communion)
The Eucharist (or the "Mass") refers firstly to the Sunday liturgy, in which God bestows the sacred mysteries on his people, and his people offer him true worship through Christ and the Holy Spirit. This Mass is in fact offered everyday throughout the world, "from the rising of the sun to its setting" (Eucharistic Prayer III).
The Eucharist also refers to the bread and wine at Mass that are really transformed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This happens through the spoken words of a priest ordained by Christ and the power of the Spirit.
Through consuming the body and blood of Jesus Christ in Mass, we have "communion" with God and with one another.
First Holy Communion
The first time a person (usually a child) receives the Body and Blood of Christ is referred to as his or her "first holy communion."
Children wishing to receive their first holy communion (and first confession) must attend the children's PRE program (Catecismo) regularly for two years prior to receiving this sacrament.
If you have any questions about your child receiving this sacrament, please call the church office at 870-772-1115.
If you are an adult wishing to receive first holy communion, please call the church office at 870-772-1115 and schedule an appointment with one of our priests.
