Our Parish

St. Edward Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish in Texarkana, Arkansas, in the Diocese of Little Rock. We are a family of Christians who worship God in Jesus Christ and seek to live out his Gospel, handed down in the Scriptures and the Church's Tradition.

In union with the Catholic Church throughout the world, we strive to live out Christ's command to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you" (Mt 28:19-20). Our life is centered on the Mass, in which Jesus Christ makes himself truly present on our altar, and offers himself to the Father in the Holy Spirit, for our salvation and that of the world. St. Edward's Catholic Church is an active family of Catholics, offering formation for youth and adults, and serving the marginalized through our Outreach Center.

Our parish was founded by the Most Rev. Edward Fitzgerald on June 20, 1903, with its first Mass celebrated in the Miller County Courthouse. On December 25, 1903, a frame chapel on Fourth and Hickory Streets was dedicated, and its first Mass was held there on the same day. In 1923, our young but generous parish built a beautiful new church building on Fourth and Beech Streets, which is our church building to this day. It was designed and built under the supervision of Lambert deKonning, and modeled on the Church of the Most Holy Trinity at the top of the Spanish steps in Rome. Our church is graced with a beautiful altar of Carrara marble and wonderful statues. There are four large, round stained glass windows, depicting the seven sacraments, the birth of Christ, the birth of St. John the Baptist, and St. Gregory the Great. The smaller stained glass windows along the sides of the church depict Jesus, Mary, and the saints.
